Wolfgang Grossruck noted that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, in its comments, is trying to draw attention to the negative aspects of the issues, and this has already become the second nature of the ODIHR: “I regret to note that this structure mostly refers to prejudiced articles, which are published in Western and European media, and tries to take from there only negative things. And this time the same thing happened. Since 1990 I have participated in the elections in Azerbaijan as an observer, and I must admit that progress has been made at the recent elections.”

Wolfgang Grossruck: Azerbaijan has undergone a rapid development

“Azerbaijan is a young independent state, but has managed to undergo a rapid development in a short time,” said OSCE PA Vice-President Wolfgang Grossruck, during his visit in Azerbaijan. As reports AZE.az, the statement of the vice-president of the OSCE PA, Wolfgang Grossruk, sounded at the February 11 meeting with the deputy chairman of Milli Mejlis Bahar Muradova.

Highly appreciating the visit of the OSCE PA Vice-President to our country, Azerbaijan, as coordinator of the post-election observation mission, B. Muradova stressed that such visits play an important role in the development of bilateral relations. She noted that Azerbaijan is interested in expanding relations with the OSCE and its individual structures. The agenda of the OSCE PA winter session, which will be held soon, also includes a report on the latest parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, AT reports. Stressing that although the opinions of the OSCE observation mission and some deputies do not coincide, B. Muradova said that despite certain shortcomings registered during the elections, this did not affect their results. Therefore, it is wrong to approach to everything with harsh criticism.

V.Grossruck said that after gaining independence Azerbaijan has made great progress, the economy became stronger,  democracy is being developed. For this development Azerbaijan deserves support of the international community. The Deputy Chairman of the OSCE PA underlined that, at the same time, instability in the region impedes the comprehensive development of Azerbaijan. This is one of the most important and main factors, and this should not be neglected.

The meeting had an exchange of views on the results of the parliamentary elections, further cooperation, bilateral relations and other issues.
