Doris Barnett: “The Electoral process in Azerbaijan in many respects did not differ much from the elections in Germany”
“As a result of my observations at 59 polling stations on Election Day in Azerbaijan, I can note that the elections were well organized, the electoral process in Azerbaijan in many respects did not differ much from the elections in Germany”, said Doris Barnett.
According to European correspondent of APA, The head of the OSCE PA Monitoring Mission, German deputy Doris Barnet who watched the presidential elections held in Azerbaijan talked about that at the meeting of the Standing Committee on October 13, in the framework of the autumn session of the OSCE PA held in Budva.
He said that for agitation activities candidates were allocated 152 places and observers only visited 52 places and did not include their opinions in the report. Expressing their attitude to the remark that one of the candidates was given the more airtime D. Barnet emphasized that in Germany, ahead of the election, Angela Merkel was allocated relatively more time to cover the day-to-day activities than other candidates. “If we rely only on what we saw on Election Day, everything was well prepared. In general, the methodology for assessing the election of the OSCE / ODIHR should be reviewed. Approaching with the same criteria for elections in the US and in Azerbaijan or in Germany and Ukraine is wrong. And for the shortcomings that have taken place, it is necessary not to condemn, but to provide assistance for their elimination”, said Doris Barnett.
