US Congressman from New Jersey Donald Payne made a statement in connection with the anniversary of January 20 and Khojaly tragedy.

In his statement Congressman Payne noted that on January 20, in 1990 Soviet army attacked civilians, who were conducting a peaceful demonstration, as a result dozens of people were killed. He also noted that on the night of February 25 to February 26, 1992, more than 600 civilians, including women and children, were killed in Khojaly, located on the Armenian-occupied territory of Azerbaijan.

 The statement also voiced an appeal to other members of Congress to honor the tragic date.

In conclusion, Congressman Payne stressed that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the US in the strategically important region.

According to AZE.az, congressman from New Jersey Donald Payne made a statement in the US Congress.

 In his speech, he told about the anniversary of January 20 and Khojaly tragedy. The embassy of Azerbaijan in the United States reported that Congressman Payne said that civilians who held peaceful demonstrations on January 20 were attacked by the Soviet army. As a result of the tragedy, more than 130 people were killed.

Congressman also noted that on the night of February 26, 1992, more than 600 women and children were killed in Khojaly, region of Azerbaijan.

Congressman called upon his colleagues and other members of Congress to honor the tragic dates.

“Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the US in the strategically important region”, said Donald Payne.
